MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Russian compatriots living abroad are witnessing firsthand attempts by Western adversaries to sow discord and undermine unity within their communities, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko has said.

"Our compatriots abroad, who often find themselves in a hostile environment, including in the information sphere, are acutely aware of efforts by our adversaries in the West - global elites, certain media outlets, and non-governmental organizations - to divide the compatriot community and fuel discord along ideological and religious lines, as well as over moral, ethical, and personal values and principles," Rudenko said at the World Thematic Conference of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad.

He stressed that, under these circumstances, "it is our collective duty to counter such attempts and the West’s aggressive actions aimed at provoking conflict by pursuing a policy of ‘divide and rule.’"

In this regard, Rudenko urged participants to draw inspiration from the words of Russian poet and diplomat Fyodor Tyutchev, who wrote in 1870: "Unity - as the oracle of our day proclaims - can perhaps be forged only with iron and blood; but we shall try to forge it with love - and then we shall see which proves more enduring.".
