At 11 o'clock, in the Sala della Regina at Montecitorio, the Chamber of Deputies will celebrate the National Day dedicated to Italian internees in German concentration camps during the Second World War, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The ceremony will open with a welcome address by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, followed by a speech by Vice President Giorgio Mulè, who sponsored the legislation.
The initiative, also carried out in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Berlin and the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin, will feature the preview screening of the documentary Baracke 13. The title refers to one of the first buildings of the Berlin labour camp, built from 1943 onwards, today part of the Documentation Centre on Forced Labour under National Socialism.
Also collaborating is the ANRP (National Association of Veterans of Imprisonment, Internment, the War of Liberation and their families).
In the Sala della Regina, Cesare Bocci will read passages from the writings and diaries of the IMI — Italian Military Internees — while Giuseppe Zeno will recount his experience playing the role of Giovannino Guareschi, who was one of the 650,000 IMI, in the RAI drama series dedicated to the life of the celebrated Emilian writer, "Non muoio neanche se mi ammazzano" ("I Won't Die Even If They Kill Me").
The event will be broadcast live by RAI, produced by Rai Parlamento, and on the Chamber of Deputies' web TV.
