"The system of freedoms and guarantees
established by the Founding Fathers, precisely to protect
the values of freedom and prevent possible authoritarian
resurgences, is based on the very clear and qualitative
distinction between the expression of ideas, even those that
are little or not at all agreeable, and the carrying out of
violent threats against the democratic order. All governments
of the Republic have always adhered to that teaching of the
Founding Fathers, and we certainly will not be the ones to
fall short of it." So said the Undersecretary of the Interior,
Wanda Ferro, responding to a parliamentary question asking
whether, on the basis of recent press reports concerning
MEP Roberto Vannacci and the party he founded, the government
intends to initiate the measures within its remit for the
dissolution of groups found responsible for conduct
constituting the glorification of fascism.
