BERLIN, October 24. /TASS/. Finnish President Alexander Stubb may become the key European mediator in negotiations with Russia on Ukraine after his talks earlier this week with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Vladimir Zelensky in Oslo, according to Berliner Zeitung.
The story says that Stubb’s significant advantage over other European politicians is his good relations with US President Donald Trump.
Stubb’s participation in the negotiations would reduce the risk of a confrontation between Trump and Zelensky, as relations between Kiev and Washington have deteriorated sharply recently, the paper said.
Earlier, Politico said that EU countries are concerned about their indifferent stance in the negotiations on Ukraine and are trying to find someone who could represent the bloc’s interests.
Moscow has repeatedly stated its readiness to hold negotiations with European countries on the security framework on the continent, taking into account the interests of both sides. On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed with the US position that when discussing issues related to "ensuring future security for both Ukraine and Russia, it will naturally be necessary to talk about the framework of European security." Russia will monitor the situation in the coming days, Putin added.
