A man approaches a deer to take a selfie, but the animal charges him. The incident occurred this morning in Villetta Barrea, a lakeside village in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, where a 57-year-old tourist was treated and then transported by air ambulance to the L'Aquila hospital, where he was diagnosed with abdominal trauma.
The episode reignites attention on the risks associated with approaching wildlife, particularly in an area where the presence of deer has also become an attraction for residents and tourists. Just a few weeks ago, in Scanno, there had been two similar incidents. Several deer had charged two men who had approached them to feed them, pet them or take photos. The two had ended up on the ground, without however sustaining any injuries. Following these incidents, the Municipality of Scanno issued an ordinance to draw attention to the correct rules of behaviour and the prohibition against approaching wildlife.
