"This morning I spoke on the phone with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, before her arrival in Turin for a discussion on the events of Saturday in Chiomonte, and I wanted to thank her for her presence here today, because in these moments it is important to demonstrate the presence and closeness, even physical, of the State and its institutions. I informed her of the decision taken today by the Regional Council to formally join as a civil party in the proceedings that will follow the serious clashes that took place on Saturday in Chiomonte." This was stated by the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, in a press release.
"The initial estimate of direct damages to the construction sites," he added, "exceeds one million euros. To this must be added an even greater damage, which affects the image of the Susa Valley and the entire Piedmont region right in the middle of the summer tourist season. Those who devastate public property and endanger people's safety must be held accountable for their actions. The Region will do its full part, in defense of the territory, businesses and citizens."
