"The consumer has the right to take away food and beverages purchased but not consumed," and "a logo is established that operators in the restaurant sector and retailers licensed to serve food and beverages may use" to communicate this option to customers, known in the United States as a "doggy bag" (indicating that leftovers are generally taken home for pets). This is provided for in the draft Competition Bill, which is expected to go before the Council of Ministers tomorrow, and which ANSA has been able to review.
"By decree of the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy," the measure reads, "in consultation with the Minister of Health, to be issued within ninety days of the date of entry into force of this law, the criteria and procedures for providing the service of taking away unconsumed food from premises" and the establishment of the logo will be defined.
"Public-initiative promotional and awareness campaigns aimed at reducing food waste," the bill specifies, "shall always reference the aforementioned logo."
