Filippo Macchi wins silver medal in foil at the Fencing World Championships, the first podium for Italy at the event currently underway in Hong Kong. The 24-year-old from Pisa – already an Olympic silver medallist in Paris – falls against Czech fencer Alexander Choupenitch in a final where he scores his first point when the score is already 13-0 in his opponent's favour, with Choupenitch claiming the world title 15-2. Macchi had won his semifinal 15-6 against Japan's Kazuki Iimura.
