Slavko Vinčić, the Slovenian referee who officiated Argentina-Spain, has won the Giulio Campanati International Award as the best referee of the World Cup. The recognition, established in memory of the historic president of the Italian Referees Association (AIA) — a position he held from 1972 to 1990 — was awarded by a distinguished jury made up of officials, former international referees and sports journalists.
The award, now in its seventh edition, was established by the 'Amici di Giulio Campanati' association and the AIA 'Umberto Meazza-Giulio Campanati' section of Milan, under the patronage of the FIGC and La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The president of the Milan AIA section, Jacopo Ceccarelli, a member of the jury, decided that for the 2026 edition his vote would reflect the judgment of the entire section — today made up of more than 500 members — who indicated the three referees who had distinguished themselves the most during the World Cup by filling out an online form. The vote thus expressed by the Milan section ultimately matched the decision reached by the entire jury.
