A healthcare worker has been arrested and three others have been suspended for one year from practicing their profession for alleged mistreatment of elderly residents at the "De Battisti" retirement home in Cerea (Verona). The investigation, as has been learned, dates back to last November, and was launched following reports of mistreatment received from family members and from the management of the local IPAB (public assistance institution) itself, who prompted the intervention of the Carabinieri. The military investigators placed hidden cameras which confirmed repeated instances of mistreatment, with violent behaviour towards the elderly residents of the retirement home. In the meantime, the healthcare worker had transferred to ULSS 9 and was arrested in Legnago (Verona) by the officers and placed under house arrest, a measure ordered by the preliminary investigations judge at the request of the public prosecutor at the Veronese court overseeing the investigation. During the inquiry, footage from the hidden cameras allegedly revealed behaviour serious enough to trigger the precautionary measure of a one-year ban from practising their profession for three other workers.
