BANGKOK, October 7. /TASS/. The death toll from flooding in Thailand has risen to 52, with the disaster affecting nearly 3.2 million people in the country’s northern, central and eastern provinces, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said.

The situation remains the most severe in Prachin Buri province, where 19 people have died, as well as in Samut Prakan (9) and Suphan Buri (5). "Flooding is currently affecting 27 provinces due to heavy rains in many areas and water flowing from the north, which has combined with water masses in the central part of the country," Department Director-General Nirat Phongsitthitthavon said. He noted that authorities are monitoring the situation around the clock and deploying equipment and personnel to pump out water and assist residents.

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a storm warning for October 9-13, forecasting severe thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul earlier ordered authorities in all provinces to prepare for a new wave of rainfall. Provincial governors and district officials have been instructed to remain on site and oversee rescue operations.
