The meeting with German composer and producer Moritz von Oswald, one of the most influential figures in electronic music and international sound research, opens the programming of Elettrobiblioteca in Modena, a project curated by Fondazione Collegio San Carlo and Fondazione Ago Modena Fabbriche Culturali.
The event, on July 23rd at 9:30 pm in Piazza Sant'Agostino, will be structured in two parts: a conversation with journalist and music critic Damir Ivic and a live performance.
Admission is free until seats are filled. In the dialogue with Ivic, von Oswald will retrace more than forty years of artistic activity, from the experiences that contributed to the birth of Detroit and Berlin techno to cross-pollinations with dub, jazz and club culture, recounting a journey that has made experimentation its defining trait. This will be followed by the presentation of 'Silencio', among the musician's most recent works. The project, born from a collaboration with the Vocalconsort Berlin choir and Finnish pianist and composer Jarkko Riihimäki, draws inspiration from the research of composers Edgard Varèse, György Ligeti and Iannis Xenakis. In the live version, the choral voice engages in dialogue with electronic sound in a composition that explores the relationship between sonic matter, space and the sacred dimension. Co-founder of the projects Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound, Moritz von Oswald is considered a key reference figure in the history of contemporary electronic music and has also signed reinterpretations of works by Maurice Ravel and Modest Mussorgsky published by Deutsche Grammophon.
Elettrobiblioteca is an interdisciplinary project dedicated to enhancing ancient musical heritage through archival research, electronics, visual arts and new technologies.
