A 77-year-old Austrian citizen drowned at Grado (Gorizia) on the afternoon of Sunday 26 July after entering the sea together with his 28-year-old daughter, who has Down syndrome, despite the red flag being displayed. This was reported by the newspaper Il Piccolo. The alarm was raised shortly after 4pm, when the Regional Emergency Health Operations Centre (SORES) dispatched rescue services to the Git Settimo Cielo beach establishment. An air ambulance also attended the scene.

The young woman was rescued by the establishment's lifeguards and brought back to shore showing the first symptoms of drowning. Remaining conscious, she was transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Monfalcone. Attempts at resuscitation carried out by medical personnel on her father proved futile, and he died shortly after being brought ashore.
