BERLIN, October 6. /TASS/. Tobias Rausch, a representative of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has become the party's first politician to be elected chairman of a Landtag, or regional parliament, DPA news agency said.

According to it, the parliament of Saxony-Anhalt elected the 35-year-old Rausch in the first round of voting - 48 deputies voted for his candidacy, 29 opposed, and five abstained.

The AfD won the September 6 elections to the Saxony-Anhalt parliament with 43.8% of the vote, while not receiving an absolute majority. The BSW (Alliance of Social Justice and Economic Reason) party, represented in parliament by five deputies, promised in advance to support Rausch's candidacy. They referred to the tradition that the chairman is nominated by the largest faction. The AfD and BSW factions together have 44 deputies, and the vote was secret.
