The stage set up next to the basilica of Saccargia, in Codrongianos (Sassari), will host the eighth edition of 'Liquida', the journalistic literature festival returning this year from July 30 to August 2. Guests including Ilan Pappé, Ramzy Baroud, Riccardo Luna, Maria Elena Delia, Emanuela Pala, Giovanni Mari, Carlo Verdelli, Laura Silvia Battaglia, Pino Arlacchi, Victoria Karam, Sara Lucaroni, Pino Casamassima, Lorenzo Tecleme, Goffredo Buccini and Elena Testi will discuss current affairs topics such as complex geopolitical balances. The focus will be on conflicts in the Middle East, China's role in the global landscape, the crisis of democratic systems threatened by new autocracies, and the distortions of contemporary capitalism.

Ample space will be given to the defence of press freedom, issues of social inclusion and the pervasive impact of technology. 'Liquida' opens on July 30 at 8 pm and brings to the stage Israeli historian Ilan Pappé with his book 'The End of Israel' and Palestinian-American journalist Ramzy Baroud, author of 'The Last Earth', for a discussion on the destinies of the Middle East and the paths towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

On July 31, 'Supervised Press Freedom' is scheduled, a round table organised by the Associazione Stampa Sarda, on the state of the journalism profession, the risks of censorship and vexatious lawsuits. Journalist and essayist Giovanni Mari, author of 'Fascistissima', and Assostampa president Simonetta Selloni will take part in the debate.

"The festival is confirmed as a point of reference for culture and journalistic communication in Sardinia and beyond," said Giovanni Scanu, councillor of the Municipality of Codrongianos with responsibility for Culture and creator of 'Liquida', "drawing a vast audience from across the island interested in understanding the dynamics of our present, not always easy to decipher."

"A milestone made possible by the collaboration between the Lìberos association, which oversees the planning," commented the mayor, Cristian Budroni, "the municipal staff, the Comes cooperative, the Coros Figulinas library system, the Associazione Stampa Sarda, Pro Loco and all other partners."
