A man has been charged over the alleged stalking, choking and sexual assault of a woman at a park in Sydney's west.

NSW Police said a 23-year-old woman was walking from Flemington Station through Airey Park in Homebush about 11:15pm on September 18 when an unknown man stopped her.

Officers were told the woman was restrained and dragged into nearby bushland, where the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

She left the scene a short time later.

About 8:50am on Thursday, detectives executed a search warrant in Padstow and took a 27-year-old man into custody.

Police also seized items from the property for forensic testing.

The man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, intentionally choking a person without consent, take person intend commit serious indictable offence and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal).

He was scheduled to face Bankstown Local Court on Friday.
