In the debate over the advisability of appointing Andrea Pirlo, a spokesperson for a Russian betting agency, as manager of the national team, General Roberto Vannacci also weighed in by phone with ANSA. "I see no ethical issue," said the leader of Futuro Nazionale. "The sponsorship should not concern anyone: culture, art and sport must remain outside politics and international relations. This is not something that should be taken into consideration when evaluating any potential role for Pirlo, where instead competence should be assessed, and certainly not his dealings with various agencies. As I did with Buttafuoco in Venice, therefore, I give him my solidarity."

Codacons: "Tomorrow we file a complaint with Agcom over Pirlo, appeal to the TAR also ready"

"Against Andrea Pirlo, Codacons will tomorrow file a formal complaint with the Communications Authority, asking it to open an investigation in light of the violation of the ban on advertising and sponsorship of betting and money games. Not only that. If the FIGC appoints him as technical commissioner of the national team, an immediate appeal to the TAR of Lazio will be filed to block the appointment." This was announced by the consumer association, which "highlights the total incompatibility of Pirlo with managerial roles in Italian football in light of current regulations." "As is known, Andrea Pirlo is a spokesperson for a Russian betting company, carrying out in Italy as well, through his social media channels and other activities undertaken by the former footballer, advertising of gambling that is prohibited, in clear violation of Article 9 of the Dignity Decree (D.L. 87/2018), which imposes an absolute ban on any form of advertising, sponsorship or promotional communication (direct or indirect) relating to games or betting with cash prizes," the statement adds. "If the Authority accepts Codacons's complaint," the statement continues, "Andrea Pirlo will face a financial penalty equal to 20% of the value of the sponsorship: Agcom applies the fine jointly to the client, the advertising agency, the media outlets and the person/spokesperson who lends their image," it explains. "Meanwhile, the association is preparing to intervene before the administrative courts as well: if the FIGC formalises Pirlo's appointment as manager of the national team, Codacons will file an appeal with the TAR of Lazio aimed at blocking the appointment in light of the former footballer's clear incompatibility."
