Six implicated in Fakir's death, the prosecutor applies the shield. The family: 'Police should not investigate themselves'

To clarify the circumstances and causes of the death of Abderahhim Fakir, which occurred on Sunday in Via Svevo in Bologna during a police intervention, the prosecutor's office led by Paolo Guido has opened a proceeding in the dedicated 'model' 45 bis register, "against those who took part in the various phases of the prolonged intervention."

These include, specifically, four ambulance operators and the two police officers who responded, from the Bolognina Pontevecchio police station. The proceedings are for the crime of manslaughter, also in view of the investigations that will be ordered. Other citizens visible in the scene, in the video recorded by a resident, have not been registered. There are therefore no suspects, but this is the application of the new rule on the separate register intended for preliminary annotations, where the names of subjects are entered to whom a criminal act is attributed as having been committed in the presence of a justifying cause. It would be the first time.

"I have accepted the role of lawyer for the Fakir family from his relatives. With this case I hope not to see a film I have already seen with Magrini and Aldrovandi. But the investigations into the current matter, as the ECHR requires, should be conducted by an independent body and not by the same one to which the people involved belong." This is what lawyer Fabio Anselmo, legal representative of the Fakir family, told ANSA regarding the fact that the police are currently conducting the investigation into the death of the 42-year-old in Bologna during the officers' intervention. As a lawyer, Anselmo has previously handled cases such as those of Stefano Cucchi and Federico Aldrovandi.

**Police reported a 'psychiatric crisis' to emergency services**

When they called for emergency medical assistance, the police officers who intervened yesterday in Via Svevo in Bologna reportedly described a man in the grip of a psychiatric crisis. This emerges from initial investigations conducted by the Bologna prosecutor's office, which is overseeing the inquiry by the mobile squad with chief prosecutor Paolo Guido and prosecutor Domenico Ambrosino. Shortly before, the police had been called by residents reporting a man, namely Fakir Abderrahim, in a state of agitation, who had allegedly confronted the driver of a car entering a garage near the place where the 42-year-old Moroccan later died.

**Prosecutors: 'The facts are more extensive than the video circulating online'**

The investigations launched by the Bologna prosecutor's office into Fakir's death "will take into account the entire sequence of events (of greater temporal extent than the video circulated online so far, which has also been acquired by this office) and the intervention of operators from both law enforcement and medical personnel." Within the context of the registration in the preliminary annotations register, provided for by the new rules of the security decree, "all necessary investigations will be carried out with the appropriate legal guarantees, beginning with medico-legal examinations, with the aim of reaching, in the swift timeframes provided for by the recently enacted legislation, a complete and exhaustive reconstruction of the facts."

**The Red Cross: 'Injured by attacks, we assist everyone'**

"Unleashed by social media, there is an attack against an institution that by its very principle provides assistance indiscriminately to all citizens. This hurts us and hurts the rescuers, who are now being pointed to as people who failed to do their duty." This is what the Red Cross of Bologna told ANSA. The four rescuers, in the case of Fakir Abderrahim, "were there, waiting to be able to intervene. It is unthinkable that they could have done so on a subject who at that moment was in the hands of law enforcement. When we were allowed to do so, we intervened," the Red Cross added.

A pool of forensic doctors for the autopsy

The autopsy to clarify the causes and time of Abderrahim's death will be a collegial technical consultation, entrusted to a pool of specialists. The appointment will be made by prosecutor Paolo Guido and deputy prosecutor Domenico Ambrosino within the next few hours. A preliminary examination revealed that the Moroccan man had wounds on his head and face, the causes of which will need to be determined. To reconstruct the scene, magistrates have already acquired the video filmed by a resident that circulated on the web, as well as footage from the body cameras worn by the two police officers. The two officers used pepper spray and then restrained the man, pinning him down.

Demonstration at 7pm, then strike at the freight terminal

A demonstration is scheduled for this evening at 7pm in Piazza Nettuno in Bologna to demand 'the truth' about Fakir's death. The initiative comes from Mayor Lepore, who was the first to call for full transparency on the circumstances that led to the death of the 42-year-old.
