Mumbai: A 72-year-old widow has lodged a police complaint against her daughter for assault and for evicting her from home. Charkop police have registered an FIR against the daughter.

Police said the woman had been living with her daughter in Charkop for the past eight years. Her son passed away in 2018. For the past few days, she and her daughter had been fighting frequently. Her daughter sent her off to Delhi to stay with her aunt. But the woman could not adjust to the cold weather in Delhi. She told the police that she had no income or pension and did not own any property, nor was there any other family member to look after her.

On Oct 3, around 9.45 am, she returned to Mumbai from Delhi. But her daughter pushed her out of the house and locked the door. She fell on the ground and hurt herself. She then approached Charkop police for help. Police summoned her daughter to the police station and tried to convince her to take the woman back home. But the daughter refused to take her along and told the police they could do whatever they wanted. The woman told the police that her daughter had left her on the street with no shelter.

Police then registered an FIR against the daughter under provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
