Abby Choi’s partner tells murder trial she hid ex-in-laws’ financial reliance on her
Chris Tam tells court slain Hong Kong socialite revealed she was supporting her former in-laws after a bitter family row and urged him to cut ties
Slain Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung’s partner has told a court she initially misled him about her former in-laws’ wealth before describing them as horrible and ungrateful after a bitter family dispute.
Chris Tam Fong-chun’s testimony also shed light on his complex relationship with Choi and his former classmate Alex Kwong Kong-chi. The three remained connected through their four children, as Choi had two with each man.
During the third week of Choi’s murder trial, Tam told the High Court that the 28-year-old model had initially portrayed her former in-laws as financially independent and comfortable. She feared her two children from her first marriage would be looked down on in their new home because of their background.
After an acrimonious row over parenting in mid-2022, Choi told Tam for the first time that she had been supporting the Kwong family financially and urged him and his father to cut ties with them.
