A murder investigation has been launched after a body was found in a van that was on fire.

Emergency Services were called to Gas Works Lane in Prestatyn, Flintshire, at about 23:30 BST on Sunday after reports of the van ablaze.

The identity of the person is unknown, and Det Supt Chris Bell said: "Officers are working at pace to identify the person."

A police cordon is in place, as investigations continue.

Det Supt Bell said: "Once the identity is known, specialist trained officers will be assigned to support their family as soon as possible.

"We understand this incident may cause concern within the local community, and I would like to reassure the public that there is a visible policing presence in the area.

North Wales Police appealed for anyone who was in the Gas Works Lane area of Prestatyn between 22:45 and 23:45 on Sunday, who saw or heard anything unusual, to get in contact.
