The Capitoline Assembly approved the resolution on the Technical Implementation Standards of Rome's General Regulatory Plan with 31 votes in favour, 6 against and 5 abstentions. The majority forces, AVS and Azione voted in favour. Fratelli d'Italia and one Forza Italia councillor voted against. Noi Moderati, one Forza Italia councillor and the 5 Star Movement abstained.
"Today is a day of great importance for Rome, and we can say so without excessive historical emphasis," said Mayor Roberto Gualtieri in the chamber before the vote, stressing that this is "a reform that will give a new and very powerful boost to the transformation process undertaken by the city, guided by some great principles that this city has embraced: social justice, the right of everyone to live in decent neighbourhoods, with a system of nearby and accessible services."
Gualtieri also recalled the "fundamental dialogue with the Lazio Region, with which there has been an exchange marked by loyal cooperation. It is my duty to extend sincere thanks to President Rocca, the Regional Council and the regional offices."
"Yesterday there was a meeting, it seems to me that we have overcome all the difficulties and the text was able to return to the Capitoline Assembly. On our part there was no political dispute. There too, a case was blown out of proportion — it was simply a matter of ensuring the proper and correct conduct of the procedure," said the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, on the sidelines of a presentation at the Region.
