Mumbai: BJP politician Kirit Somaiya on Monday visited the Gamdevi police station and asked for action to be taken against actor

Imran Khan, who had arrived at August Kranti Maidan for an anti-CEC protest on Saturday.

“Imran Khan staying in India for the last couple of days is showing extremism, fanaticism... Indians cannot tolerate it. Khan is a foreign citizen, and the police will call him for an inquiry,” Somaiya said.

The Gamdevi police have sent Somaiya’s application to the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO). “Imran Khan is indeed a foreign national. There is a competent authority to look into the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) issue and hence we have forwarded the same to the FRRO,” said an official.

Somaiya has written to the

Mumbai police seeking the detention and deportation of Khan for joining the protest in the city on Saturday supporting the Cockroach Janata Party. Somaiya has complained that since Khan is a foreign citizen, his participation in a political demonstration violated OCI rules and visa conditions. In a social media post, Somaiya said he has also filed a complaint with the FRRO Immigration Division at Mumbai airport.

OCI card-holders are foreign nationals who enjoy certain privileges, including a lifelong, multiple-entry visa to India, subject to rules. They also receive specified benefits relating to education, property and certain professional activities.
