TOKYO, September 29. /TASS/. The Japanese government has decided to lift sanctions on a number of Syrian companies and government agencies, including entities in the oil, banking, and telecommunications sectors, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said.
The sanctions will be lifted, in particular, on Syria’s Defense Ministry and Interior Ministry. Asset-freezing measures will also be lifted on companies including the Syrian Petroleum Company, Syria Trading Oil Company, Commercial Bank of Syria, and Syriatel. The decision was made in light of developments surrounding Syria and taking into account bilateral relations between Japan and Syria, the ministry said.
In 2025, Japan partially lifted sanctions on Syria, removing several Syrian banks from its sanctions lists, including the Industrial Bank, Popular Credit Bank, Saving Bank, and Agricultural Cooperative Bank.
Japan has, however, maintained sanctions on 59 individuals and 18 Syrian entities.
