She called 112 asking for help because her 46-year-old mother was slapping, kicking and punching her 74-year-old husband, and when the carabinieri arrived they arrested the woman on charges of domestic abuse. The incident occurred in Perugia.
The response was carried out by carabinieri from the mobile radio unit of the Umbrian capital's company, with the assistance of the operational intervention squad of the sixth mobile battalion "Toscana". Following the emergency call from the couple's daughter, officers went to their home. The investigative activity carried out allowed them to gather — the force reports — "serious evidential elements" sufficient to proceed with the arrest of the woman, who was placed in the Perugia-Capanne prison. The man was treated with a prognosis of five days.
"This event," the carabinieri emphasise in their statement, "represents a further opportunity to urge potential victims or witnesses to promptly report similar incidents to law enforcement and judicial authorities, so as to enable the necessary and immediate measures put in place to combat gender-based violence to be deployed, in order to receive help and protection."
