Regulation of Artificial Intelligence: US President Trump Announces "AI Force"
Following hacking incidents, even leading AI companies had advocated slowing down the development of the technology. US President Trump, however, sees things differently. He is now announcing an "AI Force" to oversee the growth of AI.
US President Donald Trump has announced plans to establish a commission to oversee Artificial Intelligence (AI). On his online platform Truth Social, he announced an "AI Force" and stated that he would be appointing an AI czar in the near future.
"We will in no way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry," Trump wrote. The government would instead value and support the technology and oversee its growth. At the same time, abuses would be monitored — something that could be handled very easily under existing criminal and civil law, he explained.
Trump did not provide details about the "AI Force." The White House initially declined to comment on the plans.
Warnings Following Hacking Incidents
In recent weeks, following hacking incidents involving AI software, even leading developers such as Anthropic and OpenAI had advocated slowing down the development of Artificial Intelligence. They see the risk that the technology could slip out of human control. At the same time, a growing number of people in the United States are viewing the construction of massive AI data centers critically — in part due to their energy consumption.
Critics wanted "the decimation or destruction of AI," Trump wrote. As President of the United States, however, he would not allow that to happen. Earlier this week, Trump had already spoken of a "sick conspiracy" against AI.
