Nine men died on Tuesday (15) during a Military Police operation in the Cajazeiras neighborhood in Salvador. According to the PM, the operation targeted organized crime and the deceased were suspected of being members of a criminal faction.
Also according to police, the nine men, whose identities were not released, were wounded during the confrontation and taken to the Eládio Lasserre Hospital, where they did not survive.
The force stated that a confrontation occurred during an attempted arrest. No officers were injured.
One man was arrested and four rifles, a carbine, five pistols, a shotgun, magazines and ammunition, among other materials, were seized. According to the PM, a ballistic vest plate, drugs and mobile phones were also found.
Still according to the PM, the group had carried out armed attacks against rivals in the area where the operation took place. The attacks are said to have occurred approximately one month ago.
The suspects were allegedly linked to the faction Bonde do Maluco. A prior PM investigation mapped images on social media in which the suspects displayed weapons and faction insignia.
The exchange of gunfire occurred in a wooded area and was heard at various points throughout the neighborhood. The PM stated that "patrolling remains reinforced in the region."
