Ex-Hong Kong lawmaker William Wong’s bail extended on 4 traffic offences
He was arrested on suspicion of crashing his car into two parked vehicles while under the influence of alcohol on the CUHK campus
Former Hong Kong lawmaker William Wong Kam-fai, who resigned after an alleged drink-driving incident, has been given two months to consider his plea on four traffic offences.
Wong, 66, was not required to enter a plea during his first appearance at Sha Tin Court on Wednesday.
Defence lawyer Paul Tse Wai-chun, also a former legislator, sought a nine-week adjournment to allow time for legal advice. Magistrate Raymond Wong Kwok-fai set the next hearing for November 11.
He was arrested in the early hours of June 30 on suspicion of crashing his car into two parked vehicles while under the influence of alcohol on the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) campus in Sha Tin the previous day.
According to a charge sheet available for press inspection, Wong’s breath-alcohol concentration was 45 micrograms per 100 millilitres – more than double the statutory limit of 22 micrograms.
