Palghar: Nine accused who had been absconding in connection with the attack at Relief Hospital in Palghar surrendered at Palghar police station on Sunday and were subsequently arrested. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 23. With all the accused now in custody, police heaved a sigh of relief.
The attack took place at Relief Hospital on Sept 5 after a dispute over the treatment of injured Govindas.
Shiv Sena workers had allegedly attacked hospital staff following the dispute. The case initially involved 17 accused, but the number was subsequently increased.
14 accused had been arrested till Saturday. On Sunday morning, eight absconding accused surrendered at the police station. They included suspended district chief Kundan Sankhe, Yuva Sena chief
Sairaj Patil, Manish alias Vicky Sankhe, Rahul Sankhe, Rishabh Ware, corporator Neelam Sankhe and Manoj Gharat. Another accused, a driver, was also arrested.
All nine accused, along with 13 of those arrested earlier, were produced before the Palghar holiday sessions court around 7 pm on Sunday. The hearing continued till late at night.
