MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Relations between Moscow and Belgrade are far broader than ties with individual politicians, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, answering a TASS question about resignation of Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic.
"Of course, relations between Russia and Serbia are much broader than simply relations with individual politicians," Peskov said when asked whether Russia expects warm ties with Serbia to continue and is ready to develop such relations with any leader of the country.
The Kremlin spokesman also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Vucic by phone on Saturday.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced his resignation as head of state in an address to the nation. Under the constitution, a new presidential election must be held no later than December 27.
Snap parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held on October 25. Vucic will lead the ruling Serbian Progressive Party’s list and become its candidate for prime minister. His main opponent is 56-year-old cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic from Novi Sad, who leads the Student List coalition.
