The preliminary hearing for the trial concerning the deaths of Ahmed Abdelaziz Said Salah Ibrahim, 26, and Mahmoud Said Samir Mohamed, 26, two Egyptian workers who died four years ago last September in a shack attached to a construction site for the renovation of a villa in Moltrasio, on Lake Como, owned by a limited liability company controlled by a Russian citizen, will open on October 20.
These are the outcomes of the investigation, which followed a complex process and reconstructed how the two Egyptian workers died from carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of lighting a brazier they had intended to use to keep warm.
The investigation established that the two men were paid 50 cents an hour. The younger of the two, Samir, was the father of two children who had remained in Egypt.
A total of six defendants will stand trial, charged with manslaughter and — three of them — also with labour exploitation (caporalato).
Tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Moltrasio, in the parish hall, a commemoration ceremony will be held in honour of the two workers.
