"A discount on diesel, and diesel only, is planned, worth 17 cents between excise duties and VAT, through August 6." This was stated by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti at a press conference following the Council of Ministers. "The cost of the operation is around 125 million euros," Giorgetti added. "We have not intervened on tobacco excise duties."
"A Council of Ministers meeting is already scheduled for August 4, which will assess the evolution of the international situation and prices, to determine what to do after August 6." This was stated by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti at the press conference following the Council of Ministers.
"The contribution for road hauliers has been updated and extended through July," Giorgetti added. "A tax credit for agriculture is also included."
Staffetta: diesel near the all-time record of March 2022
Fuel prices at the pump rose sharply through Saturday, with a gradual stabilization over the past two days, aided by the collapse in prices recorded on Friday in the wake of signs of a ceasefire in the Middle East.
Petrol surpassed €1.98, its highest level since October 5, 2023, while diesel reached €2.18, a peak not seen since March 18, 2022, the day after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, coming very close to the all-time record of €2.229 reached on March 17, 2022, which prompted the Draghi government to cut excise duties.
This morning, July 27, the average price of self-service fuel on the national road network stands at €1.982/l for petrol (+14 thousandths compared to Friday), €2.185/l for diesel (+24), €0.743/l for LPG (-1) and €1.603/kg for methane (+8). On the motorway network, the average self-service price is €2.071/l for petrol (+12), €2.255/l for diesel (+27), €0.877/l for LPG (-2) and €1.606/kg for methane (+10).
According to the regular survey by Staffetta Quotidiana, Q8 has raised its recommended prices by one cent per litre for petrol and two cents for diesel. Tamoil has raised petrol by 2 cents and diesel by 3 cents.
Turning to the breakdown by sales method and brand, based on data recorded at 8 a.m. yesterday morning, considering all approximately 20,000 points of sale that report prices to the price observatory of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (road and motorway network combined), the following are the average prices applied, as processed by Staffetta: self-service petrol at €1.984/litre (branded stations €1.988, unbranded pumps €1.975), self-service diesel at €2.186/litre (branded stations €2.186, unbranded pumps €2.1865). Attended petrol at €2.118/litre (branded stations €2.157, unbranded pumps €2.045), attended diesel at €2.321/litre (branded stations €2.355, unbranded pumps €2.257). Attended LPG at €0.752/litre (branded stations €0.762, unbranded pumps €0.743), attended methane at €1.601/kg (branded stations €1.590, unbranded pumps €1.609), LNG €1.445/kg (branded stations €1.447/kg, unbranded pumps €1.444/kg). For self-service petrol, Eni is at €1.980/litre (€2.187 attended); IP at €1.994 (€2.170 attended); Q8 at €1.990 (€2.145 attended); Tamoil at €1.986 (€2.062 attended); for self-service diesel, Eni is at €2.157 (€2.365 attended); IP at €2.195 (€2.361 attended); Q8 at €2.198 (€2.359 attended) and Tamoil at €2.190 (€2.269 attended).

The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data recorded by the Mimit Fuel Price Observatory, as of today – Monday, July 27, 2026 – the average price of fuels in self-service mode along the national road network stands at 1.982 euros per litre for petrol and 2.185 euros per litre for diesel. On the motorway network, meanwhile, the average self-service price is 2.071 euros per litre for petrol and 2.255 euros per litre for diesel.
