The notes of Vasco Rossi ('Amo te...' from the song 'E...'), applause and dozens of white balloons in the sky. In Nonantola (Modena), a packed crowd at the abbey for the funeral of Monica Esposito, a 55-year-old woman who died two months after the attack in the historic centre of Modena. Last May 16th, the woman had been struck by a car driven by Salim El Koudri while she was walking in the city centre together with her husband Angelo, who was also seriously injured, and who was present at today's funeral with their children. One of them, the youngest, entrusted his farewell to his mother to a message: "The last thing you told me was to study. And I graduated but without your eyes on me. I know you will always be my guardian angel."
Around a thousand people, many of them fellow citizens, attended the funeral, on a day of civic mourning in Modena, Nonantola and Ravarino. For tomorrow evening in Piazza Grande in Modena, there will be a commemoration organised by the family.
