MUMBAI: The IIT-Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA), in a statement issued on Tuesday, has condemned the online speculation, media trials and hasty conclusions being drawn against any individual in connection with the death by suicide of the second-year B Tech student, Sahil Wakode.
The association has sought a fair, transparent and speedy investigation into the incident.
In the statement, the alumni body said it was deeply saddened by the student's death and extended its condolences to his family.
It said the IIT-Bombay community was going through an 'immensely difficult period' and stressed the need for an equitable, inclusive, safe and supportive environment for the well-being of students, faculty and staff.
While acknowledging the responsibility of the institute's faculty and administration to uphold institutional protocols and academic standards, IITBAA called for a fair, transparent and speedy investigation into the incident.
It urged that all procedures be conducted 'with complete fairness and without prejudice'.
“Empathy, fairness, and truth must guide our community forward,” the association said, adding that it remained committed to supporting students and faculty and would collaborate with the institute to strengthen mental health resources, campus well-being and trust within the community.
