MUMBAI: In a special drive, Mumbai Traffic Police cracked down on more than 12500 vehicles using "dazzling lights" or fancy headlights that cause inconvenience to other motorists. Fines upto Rs 88 lakh were issued.

The special drive was conducted from June 1 to Oct 26 and action was taken under Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules and

Motor Vehicles Act.

Police said they received complaints of motorists using illegal flashing lights, LED bars and fancy headlights that impacted the vision of other motorists, putting their safety at risk and resulting in the possibility of road crashes.

The campaign will continue, said officials, warning motorists against using unauthorised flashing lights, LED bars and fancy lights on their vehicles at night.

Police adviced that low beam should be used while driving at night.
