The Government will declare a public holiday on the day the national team players celebrate with the people

The Government announced tonight that it will declare a national holiday when the national team players announce their intention to celebrate with the people. The national squad would arrive this Monday at 5 p.m. and it is likely that the non-working day will be set for this Tuesday.

Minutes after Argentina's defeat to Spain was confirmed, Javier Milei used his X account to acknowledge the performance of the Argentine team. "Thank you so much players...!!! Until the end with boots on. Argentina always on top," the head of state posted.

Although he gave no hints about the possibility of declaring a holiday for public employees, the ATE union pressured him this Sunday afternoon to declare an administrative day off. "President, this national team is AN IMMENSE SOURCE OF PRIDE FOR THE ARGENTINE PEOPLE. We must guarantee them the recognition they deserve upon their return to the country. It is your OBLIGATION to decree a day off for the entire national territory. DO NOT DELAY ANY FURTHER!!" said Rodolfo Aguiar, head of the state workers' union.

At the Casa Rosada, officials argue that "if they grant a day off" it is "because the national team is going" to the balconies of the government palace, but for the time being employees are required to report to work this Monday as a normal day. Nevertheless, what is emerging this Sunday night is that the "tribute operation" for the national team will depend on what the players themselves want to do, led by Lionel Messi. The Province has also not confirmed any kind of operation from Ezeiza airport.

Presidential advisor Santiago Caputo hinted at the Executive's interest in organizing celebrations for the national team. "Anyone who badmouths the national team is anti-Argentine. Tomorrow (Monday) everyone wear the jersey," he posted on his X account.

The Government has already ordered the removal of the stones placed in tribute to COVID victims that were deposited in Plaza de Mayo, ahead of the possible gathering of fans this Monday to greet the national team's idols.
