A 23-month-old girl with heart and brain conditions has died after her parents found her unresponsive at their Hong Kong flat, the South China Morning Post has learned.

Police said they received a report from the infant’s mother at 5.30am, saying her daughter had passed out at their light public housing flat at 20 Olympic Avenue in Kai Tak.

They added that paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and found the girl unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse.

She was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, where she was certified dead at 6.51am.

A source told the SCMP that the girl had been diagnosed with cardiac and cerebral conditions at birth and had attended regular follow-up appointments at the hospital.

According to the source, the 39-year-old father and 27-year-old mother checked on the girl before going to sleep at 2am and noticed nothing unusual.
