"I already knew Malagò, Maldini and Leonardo made a very good impression on me. The real issue is that compared to the timeframe they have set for rebuilding, it would be important to try to do things a little more quickly. The first 100 days are crucial, we can't take 8 to 10 years: that's a timeframe that wouldn't even work for the Soviet Union. In my opinion, the timescales need to be much shorter." This is the opinion of Torino president Urbano Cairo, after listening to the plans of the new FIGC leadership. "They are inheriting a difficult situation," Cairo points out as he leaves the Serie A League meeting, "but sometimes inheriting a difficult situation is a good thing, because you come in and can do much better. The 100 days are fundamental for changing the rules if we want to develop talent, give more access to talent even in the leagues. And then it is very important to develop coaches and have the centres. Perhaps someone should say let's make these investments and in 2 to 4 years get things done instead of 8 to 10 years. That would suit me better." Cairo cites Tavecchio's choice in 2014 with Antonio Conte as national team manager, but explains he is not advocating his own cause: "Tavecchio made a few gaffes and got off to a difficult start, but then he had the ability to choose Conte and that gave him an incredible boost. Fortunately it's not up to me to decide. Besides, it's not just the manager that's needed, much deeper work needs to be done."
