Giovanni De Gennaro won the bronze medal in the men's K1 at the canoe slalom world championships, currently underway in Oklahoma City (USA). On the course that in two years will host the Olympic events at Los Angeles 2028, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion once again stepped onto the individual podium at the world championships, following the silver medal he won in 2022 in Augsburg. De Gennaro finished with a time of 85.27 after a penalty-free run, 1.62 seconds behind Czech athlete Jakub Krejci, who takes the top step of the podium. The silver medal goes to Poland's Michal Pasiut in 85.27. Xabier Ferrazzi's run, meanwhile, came to an end in the semifinal.
"It was a strange race, I couldn't tell whether I was going fast or not, but in the final section I managed to maintain a good rhythm," said De Gennaro. "I'm satisfied with how the season is going and proud to have won this medal in a very competitive race."
