Mumbai: Criticising

Rahul Gandhi on the decision to march to the

Supreme Court, CM

Devendra Fadnavis termed the move as “unconstitutional.”

Speaking to the media in Mumbai and Nagpur on Monday, Fadnavis said instead of marching to meet the Chief Justice of India, Rahul should approach the court to address grievances.

“The Constitution was authored by Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Your grandmother also attempted to dismantle it. In 1975, your grandmother enacted an amendment effectively barring citizens from approaching the courts to enforce their fundamental rights, which were the most significant provision introduced by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” Fadnavis said.

He said the entire opposition fought back at that time and succeeded in restoring Babasaheb’s Constitution. “No matter how many protests you organise against the Constitution, we will not allow any harm to come to Babasaheb’s Constitution; we will not let you subvert it. The country will not tolerate these activities that are against the Constitution. Come what may, we will spare no effort to save this Constitution and this democracy—this is a warning I wish to issue to Rahul Gandhi,” Fadnavis said.

He condemned the attempts by the INDI bloc to cast aspersions on constitutional institutions and urged Congress to reflect on its leadership failures rather than attributing election losses to EVMs.

“The Congress needs to do some introspection, as major states across the country have rejected the party for years… The need is to not blame EVMs for its defeat but to look for the cause within their own leadership—a leadership that has been repeatedly rejected,” he said.

Asserting the Modi govt is not thwarting democratic protests, state minister Ashish Shelar said in the last 10 years, over 14 lakh protests have been held across the country. “PM Modi is one of the most sensitive and restrained leaders ever,” he said.
