Five people died and six were injured in an accident involving a car and a van in Caraí (MG), 550 kilometers from Belo Horizonte. According to the Federal Highway Police, four of the dead were in the car.
The accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. this Monday (27) on BR-116. The Federal Highway Police said the two vehicles collided head-on.
The van was providing services for the municipality of Rubim (MG) and was transporting residents to medical treatment in Teófilo Otoni (MG), approximately 300 kilometers away. In addition to the driver, seven patients were in the vehicle, according to the health department.
Only one victim has been identified: Simone Pereira Santos, who was a municipal employee of Rubim (MG).
"At this moment of grief, we stand in solidarity with her family and friends, wishing them strength, comfort and serenity," the city hall wrote in a note of condolence published on its social media channels.
The four occupants of the car died at the scene. The Federal Highway Police did not release their identities.
Among the six survivors, four have serious injuries and two have minor injuries. One of the injured has already been discharged and the others remain under care at hospitals in the region, according to the Rubim city hall.
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais had not yet responded to a request for information.
