BUDAPEST, October 26. /TASS/. The European Union will not lift its full ban on Russian gas imports, scheduled to take effect in November 2027, even if a peace agreement on Ukraine is reached, European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen told Hungary’s 444.hu media outlet.

Commenting on Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar’s remark that EU countries could resume Russian gas purchases after the Ukraine conflict ends, Jorgensen said that it would be a mistake for the bloc to start buying Russian gas again.

Earlier, the EU approved a full ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports under long-term contracts starting January 1, 2027. Imports under short-term contracts were banned in April 2026. Pipeline gas supplies are expected to cease by September 30, 2027 but could continue until November 1 in countries failing to fill their gas storage facilities.
