Mira Road: Two days after a 23-year-old man suffered injuries after a wooden plank fell on him from the elevated Metro Line 9 construction site in Kashigaon, Kashimira police on registered a case against an employee of the project’s contractor.
On Sunday, around 1 pm, Shadab Mansuri (23) was standing below the under-construction Metro bridge when the wooden plank fell on him. He was rushed to hospital and treated for his injuries. His condition is stable, said sources.
Police have registered a case of negligence against Kamruddin (42), the Metro project contractor’s storekeeper. According to senior inspector Rajendra Kamble, the wooden plank had become old and was supposed to be disposed of. However, it was allegedly left in the open.
Police said they will write to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is executing the Metro project, seeking an explanation.
The incident came a month after a safety lapse at Medetiya Nagar station of Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East with Mira Bhayander, when granite stones fell into a barricaded work area, with some later puncturing the tyres of a passing school van. MMRDA had slapped a Rs 10 crore fine on the contractor, J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd, and Rs 2.5 crore on two agencies.
