"Since the news of my possible candidacy continues to circulate, I would like to clarify that, for a number of reasons that are predominantly personal in nature, it is not my intention to run for the office of mayor" of Milan. This was stated by economist Carlo Cottarelli, thanking "those who put forward my candidacy: it is always gratifying to know that one is considered up to an assignment of great responsibility such as leading an important city like Milan." Although he had never received a "proposal based on a concrete action programme," in recent weeks, he himself recalls, his name was mentioned among others by "Letizia Moratti and Antonio Tajani," after Carlo Calenda "was the first to mention" the possibility back in June 2025.
