Anna Hazare (89) was admitted to the ICU at Bombay Hospital near New Marine Lines around 8:30 pm on Monday with a suspected viral infection.
Hazare was initially admitted to a hospital in Ralegan Siddhi, but was later brought to Mumbai by road after his creatinine levels rose, indicating kidney problems.
Dr Gautam Bhansali, who is treating Hazare, said, “We are conducting various tests, but it appears he has a viral infection. He is severely dehydrated and showing signs of kidney failure.” Tests were underway at the time of going to press. Several villagers from Ralegan Siddhi are learnt to have accompanied Hazare to the hospital.
