Arnau, 24 years old, has lived in the countryside since he was 18: "Hunting is the greatest form of being self-sufficient"

At 18, most boys and girls divide their time between studying, parties and video games.

However, there are still some who choose a different path, one characterized by a greater sense of calm.

This is the case of Arnau, a young man originally from Barcelona who, from that age, has lived away from the city, in a farmhouse where he hunts and raises animals, and also tends his own vegetable garden.

Hunting and raising animals far from the city: how 24-year-old Arnau lives

Arnau's story became known through a report he gave to a YouTube channel.

There, the young man recounted that he lived in Barcelona until he was 18, but that he never felt comfortable in the city. "I never quite liked it. I would wake up in the morning with little energy, I was studying and I even thought I had anemia. I was extremely unmotivated, with no desire to do anything," he said.

During those years, Arnau used to visit the farmhouse his parents own in the middle of the mountains. "We would come here to spend the weekend and I enjoyed what I did on the weekends much more than during the whole week."

Finally, upon reaching adulthood, he decided to move there on his own.

To support himself, Arnau relies primarily on hunting, an activity he has practiced since he was 15 years old. "Hunting is the greatest form of self-sufficiency," he said.

The young man eats the meat of the animals he catches, such as deer, although this is not his only food source.

Alongside this, he raises chickens that he later eats, as well as hens and ducks from which he obtains eggs.

A vegetable garden and a particular business: Arnau's other activities

Apart from hunting and raising animals, Arnau has a greenhouse in his backyard, which he built using recyclable materials. There he grows tomatoes, squash and green beans, among other vegetables.

Despite all of this, the young man admitted that he is not 100% self-sufficient, although he said he "could be." This is because he consumes rice, oil and a few other products that he buys at the supermarket.

To cover those small expenses, he set up a rabbit-selling business, as he also raises rabbits at his home. "One day I thought I would like to raise rabbits for people who want one. So I researched how to give them the best care, making sure they have enough space and live in groups without any problems," he explained to the YouTube channel.

For this reason, Arnau has not yet closed his social media accounts. "If I didn't have social media and wasn't consistent, this business wouldn't work because nobody would know about the project, or very few people would buy [rabbits] from me and at a very low price," he explained.
