A man who allegedly grabbed a child during an attempted abduction in Adelaide's north earlier this week has been arrested following police investigations.

The incident occurred on Monday evening just before 7:30pm when a couple and small girl were walking along Niven Drive at Paralowie, police said.

They said a man picked up the girl "and carried her a short distance, before putting her down again".

Police last saw the suspect on Marvin Way.

An 18-year-old Paralowie man was later arrested by CIB detectives following investigations.

The man was charged with the abduction of a child and was refused police bail.

Police said he would appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
