Mumbai: Residents of south Mumbai may hear sirens on Thursday and Friday as BMC will conduct tests of prototype siren systems installed at two buildings in Fort.
The sirens will be tested at the Old Secretariat, including its adjoining building in Fort, and the Civil Defence College building near Cross Maidan, BMC said on Wednesday.
The civic body clarified that the tests are planned and do not indicate any emergency or threat. It appealed to citizens not to panic if they hear the sirens. BMC urged citizens to cooperate with the administration during the tests and refrain from believing or circulating unauthorised information or rumours regarding the siren alerts.
The prototype siren equipment has been developed by a team from the Centre for Development of Telematics under the guidance of the Director General, Civil Defence, New Delhi. The testing comes amid efforts to strengthen emergency warning and alert systems in the city.
