'Aenigma' Opens at the Teatro Sociale in Amelia, an exhibition curated by Fabrizio Razza in which photographer Maurizio Galimberti, through his characteristic photographic mosaic, deconstructs the bronze colossus of Germanicus in a dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art.
An "immense 40-square-metre work unfolds across the stalls" of the theatre, the organisers explain, "with panels suspended one metre above the ground, transforming the theatrical space into an altar of memory. From the three tiers of boxes, visitors are invited to look down upon the beauty that reassembles itself and to follow with their eyes the thread of this excavation of the soul. It is an invitation to lose oneself in the mystery of the unspoken, to experience the same shiver, the same sense of wonder felt by those who, in 1963, watched those fragments of bronze re-emerge from the dust." The statue, restored and reassembled through a decade-long effort, is today housed at the city's Museo Civico Archeologico.
The vernissage of the exhibition 'Aenigma. Germanicus. Il colosso di Amelia' is scheduled for tomorrow, 26 July, at 6:30 pm. The exhibition will remain open until 13 September, Monday to Friday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays with extended closing time until 10 pm. The exhibition is organised by the association Arte di Esporre, in collaboration with Red Photographic Dark Room, and with the support of the Municipality of Amelia.
"Maestro Galimberti," comments the municipal councillor for Culture, Luigia Moscatelli, "with artistic sensitivity and creativity, succeeds in promoting and breathing new vitality into the Germanicus, inviting us to look at it through different eyes, capturing its nuances, memory and potential."
