MOSCOW, September 30. /TASS/. Top politicians in some European states want more stringent control over financial flows to Ukraine, Member of the European Parliament Fernand Kartheiser told Izvestia.
"In some EU countries, leading politicians are already openly demanding stricter control over financial flows to Ukraine. Many factors are pushing the EU to seek more effective control over the funds sent to Kiev," he noted.
Kartheiser said that the EU’s ability to exercise control through its own bodies — the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, the European Anti-Fraud Office, or OLAF -- is extremely limited.
"These bodies do not have territorial jurisdiction in Ukraine, nor do they have a sufficient number of staff and other resources," he explained.
MEP Petar Volgin told the paper that further increases in aid to Kiev are already sparking disputes within the European Parliament.
"The EU leadership will continue to pour huge sums into Ukraine’s bottomless pit," he said.
